Hello and welcome to SnazzyFood!

Hey there! I’m Myra L. Dennis, a 38-year-old chef based in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee. If you’re curious about who’s behind the apron, I’m excited to share my story with you. I’ve spent years chasing flavors, perfecting recipes, and, yes, occasionally making a mess in the kitchen (because that’s how you learn, right?). My journey’s all about celebrating American cuisine and bringing people together through food, whether you’re a home cook, a foodie, or just someone who loves a good meal, I hope you’ll feel right at home with me.
I grew up in a small Tennessee town where Sunday dinners were the highlight of the week. My grandmother was the star of the kitchen, and I was her little shadow. From the moment I could reach the counter, I was learning the magic of flaky biscuits, smoky barbecue, and the creamiest mac and cheese you’ve ever had. Those days weren’t just about food, they were about family, tradition, and the warmth of feeding the people you care about. That’s where my love for cooking began, and it’s never left me.
After high school, I knew I wanted to make cooking my life, so I headed to Nashville and started small-working in diners and family-owned spots, mastering the heart of Southern cooking. But I craved more. I wanted to dig into the incredible variety of American flavors, so I took off on a road trip across the country. I tasted New England clam chowder, Tex-Mex chili, and soaked up the farm-to-table vibe in California. Every stop added something new to my toolbox, and I brought it all back to Nashville with me.

That’s when I opened my restaurant, Southern Roots. It’s a cozy little place where I mix classic Southern comfort food with a fresh twist, think fried chicken drizzled with spicy honey or collard greens kissed with smoked paprika. I’m all about using fresh, locally-sourced ingredients because supporting our farmers and producers matters to me. I love playing with new ideas, but at my core, I stay true to the roots of American cooking. Food’s about connection, and nothing beats a dish that feels like a hug from home.
One of my favorite moments was winning “Best Southern Chef” at a local food festival. It wasn’t just the award, it was seeing how my food lit up people’s faces. That’s what drives me: knowing a dish can spark a memory, start a conversation, or turn a rough day into something better.
So, whether you’re a pro in the kitchen or just getting started, I hope my story gets you excited to cook something up. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about having fun, getting creative, and sharing the table with others. If you’re ever in Nashville, drop by Southern Roots. I’d love to meet you, swap stories, and maybe share a plate of my famous buttermilk biscuits. Until then, happy cooking!
